Western PN has really smooth roads

Not sure about this whole blog formatting thing - so these pics are sort of in randomly, but they are all from Ohio. :)

Well, been busy driving, sight seeing and chasing the two munchkins, hence the lapse in posting over the last few days - we'll try to catch up now.

Ohio - Odometer 12235, gas 2.42/gallon

Sandusky Ohio - can't say too much about this place and KOA camp ground was just mediocre. But, hop on the ferry to South Bass Island and it is another story. We hopped on the ferry for the 15 minute ride to Put-In-Bay, the name of the town on South Bass Island, the most developed of the Islands in lake Erie. It had the feel of Catalina Island mixed in with the Viagra Triangle during spring break. Lots and Lots of drunk twenty something and forty somethings driving around in golf carts, just a few families; but great people watching. Tons of restaurants and bars, and some very interesting history that we learned about on the "tour train" which Zoe loved riding! Missy was more interested in the private Island to the north - Rattle Snake Island. After a little research at home later - the tour guy made it sound alot cooler than it probably really is though. The local high school just graduated a class of 5 - with only one girl who was the valedictorian - looks like a school that beat yours Colleen.

Of note in Sandusky, they do have a Merry-go-round museum that has volunteers that are still carving carousel horses. Zoe had her own private merry-go-round for at least 5 rides - and this was easily the fastest one Missy or I had ever ridden on - you actually had to lean in to counter the centrifugal forces! And no seat belts on any horse either. Zoe was in heaven.

And, before we left for the museum, we were hit with a hurricane for about an hour. BJ got the awning rolled up tight while Missy and the munchkins were safe inside the Sequoia.

Erie PN - Odometer 12605, gas 2.55

We headed north East along the coast of Lake Erie, with a stop in Erie PN. People in Ohio had actually bragged about how great their roads were, but I sure noticed the difference when we hit PN, it was like I wasn't even towing a 7500lb trailer anymore. We stayed at the Erie/McKean KOA on the recommendation of our neighbors in Sandusky, and we were much happier with that site for the while we were their, although all the roads were gravel, which wasn't so good for Zoe on her "pedal bike".

While driving around Erie, the houses were all in general immaculate with the landscaping to match - looked like story book houses. Close to the town of Erie is the Presque (press - cow) Isle - although it is actually peninsula. Very pretty place with many beaches and a western exposure for the sunset. We had a nice run on the back path along the water and beaches while Zoe and Kes took in the sites. One of my favorite sites on the island was, while running, being passed by a bald middle aged male driving a red Chrysler convertible, with flames on the side, blasting Prince on the stereo. Gave me a smile and motivation for the next mile. :)
Once the run was over, Zoe and I headed to the beach to dig in the sand and get our feet into Lake Erie. The water was very clear, but boy did it have a smell. So strong even Zoe didn't want to swim. So dig we did until Kes and Missy were ready to hit the road looking for dinner.
