Lake George, NY

Beautiful drive from Verona to Lake George - we hopped onto Route 29 asap and had a nice drive through the foothill towns of upstate NY. Reminded me of highway 49 in CA. As we reached the expressway again, we ended up traveling through Saratoga Springs, also known as "the city in the country" - and for good reason. Enough nice bistros and restaurants, as well as high end shops to be walking in Paris or Manhattan, and the town population is below 30,000. We didn't have time to stop, and couldn't find parking for our 55 foot train, but the place looked fun.

We arrived at Lake George to about 12 hours of rain, but the trailer held water tight and the arcade kept Zoe and myself busy. It was only drizzling around dinner so we were able to walk around the down town for a while - it was alot like the Wis Dells or South Lake Tahoe 15 years ago.

The next morning we jumped onto the Minnie Ha Ha - a steamboat, for a one hour tour of the south end of the lake. We covered about 3 miles of the 32 miles of the lake. Some amazing homes and boat houses all around the lake with a great setting.

We do have to comment that of all the places we visited, from the restaurants to the arcade to even the rustic campground, Lake George may be pretty, but it is lacking in customer service. Strange, but just our experience here.

Of note too, after the last few weeks, we have decided we like paved campgrounds - too hard to keep the place clean with the kids, and we don't get to go home and clean things later, we have to do it as we go along. We understand why KOAs are so popular with the 'full timers' now. :) The campground here was defintely rustic, with gravel roads and dirt sites. They did have a great kiddie pool here too though that Zoe fully enjoyed - although she didn't enjoy sharing her toys all that much with the other kids.

Overall a nice couple of days in Lake George, but we are anxious to keep on exploring new places.
